tmux, configured properly
Defaults are for people who have not thought about it yet. This
environment has, and /etc/tmux.conf is not left on stock
settings.
- Prefix
Ctrl-a, thescreen-style prefix, not the defaultCtrl-b. - Vi-style pane navigation:
prefix h/j/k/l, plusAlt+arrowwith no prefix at all. - Mouse support, 256-color truecolor, 50000-line scrollback, zero escape-time latency.
- Session persistence across a full container restart, not just a detach, via
tmux-resurrectandtmux-continuum. - A dead process cannot take your whole session down. If something in a pane dies, that pane shows exactly what happened and
prefix + rgets you a live shell back in the same spot in under a second.
The full plugin roster, each doing one job:
| Plugin | Job |
|---|---|
| tmux-sensible | The baseline settings everyone should start from. |
| tmux-resurrect / tmux-continuum | Save and automatically restore your layout, panes and running programs. |
| tmux-yank | A clipboard that actually reaches your system clipboard, on top of the OSC 52 bridge described in the clipboard section. |
| vim-tmux-navigator | The same h/j/k/l pane movement works seamlessly between tmux panes and vim splits. |
| tmux-open | Open a URL or file path straight from the terminal, no mouse required. |
| tmux-fzf | Fuzzy-search over sessions, windows, panes, and more. |
| tmux-power-zoom | One keystroke (prefix Z) to pop the current pane fullscreen in a popup. |
| tmux-better-mouse-mode | Scroll and mouse behavior that feels like a real terminal, not an afterthought. |
| tmux-sessionist | Session management that does not require memorizing session names character-for-character. |
Full key reference, always current: run tmux list-keys from
inside any session.
