Clipboard and files, bridged into the browser
A terminal that lives in a browser tab is only as good as how easily things move in and out of it. Two things are wired directly into the terminal for exactly that reason.
The clipboard is one clipboard
Select text anywhere in the terminal and it is copied to your system
clipboard immediately, no Ctrl+C required. The reverse works
too: paste normally (Ctrl+V, right-click, whatever your
platform uses) and it lands as real keystrokes in whatever program has
focus, including inside vim or a program reading from the
tmux paste buffer. Under the hood this rides on the same OSC 52
mechanism described in the editors section, so it survives the full stack:
browser, WebSocket, docker exec, tmux, and the program itself.
Drag a file in, it lands in your current directory
Drop a file anywhere on the terminal and it uploads straight into the
current working directory of whichever pane is currently active, the exact
one tmux display-message -p '#{pane_current_path}' reports.
While the upload is in flight, the tmux status bar itself shows the
progress, so you always know it is working without needing to check a
browser panel. No FTP client, no intermediate step.
